A Day at the Races

Lexington’s water flows through limestone reserves, which is said to produce thoroughbred horses and exceptional bourbon. Horse racing reigns in the Bluegrass State. Explore the lush grounds of Keeneland for an auction or race. For more horse lore, head to the Kentucky Horse Park, home of the Hall of Champions, the International Museum of the Horse and the American Saddlebred Museum. There are 41 distilleries on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, and 14 are within driving distance. Don’t have time for a boat tour or road trip? Head to the Lexington Distillery District, just minutes from downtown. (It’s also a great place to catch a concert.) Spend a Saturday morning nibbling on samples and listening to live music at the Lexington Farmers Market. Main Street brings you to the Mary Todd Lincoln House, where the First Lady resided until 1839.
